The following public release notes give information about the main changes in the Bullitt Satellite Messenger app, for Android and iOS. These notes are not intended to be exhaustive - but rather to highlight new features.
Each release includes the features, updates and enhancements mentioned in the notes for earlier versions - even if an earlier version refers to a release made only to the Android or iOS version of the app - unless otherwise stated.
An error was inadvertently introduced in version 1.6.4 that impacts some Android users' messaging experience. This release fixes that specific issue.

This release is focused on delivering a number of bug fixes, improved translations, and stability improvements. In particular, it includes improvements that resolve rare cases where the message data quota may temporarily display differently in the app and the customer portal.
This release also includes a often-requested new feature - you can now define a custom Check-In message from the Settings menu, rather than relying on the presets.
A change was also made to the SOS user interface, with the addition of an option to restart and submit (or resubmit) responses to the short triage questionnaire, in the event that the user had previously skipped it, or if circumstances have changed.
Meanwhile, the beta release of Location Tracking continues, as we work to refine that feature prior to full public release. Due to popular demand for inclusion in this beta, the invitations will be extended to more users in the coming weeks. If you'd like to participate, you can find the form to request access, here.

This update includes the limited beta release of Location Tracking, with the feature set to be rolled out publicly in all regions in the coming weeks. This feature allows users to send scheduled location updates to preselected contacts, on a custom preset transmission frequency, and for a session length of their choice, with contacts able to view waypoints overlaid on a Google Map via the Bullitt Tracking hub. Use of the Tracking feature will require users to have a subscription with Tracking included (or added). Pricing and availability will be available soon at Bullitt.com.
A number of minor bug fixes are also included in this version.

This release includes a significant reworking of the way message notifications work within iOS. This resolves a prolonged issue experienced by iPhone users where notifications were not displayed correctly when messages were received.

Alongside various bug fixes and stability improvements, this version includes improvements to the functioning of the 'Sending via satellite' switch in the chat views for Bluetooth devices, with the status automatically updating as the context changes. For example, if the user is connected to satellite via the Bluetooth device, and to the internet via a cellular connection and then the internet connection drops, the switch will automatically move to ON to show that messages will now, necessarily, send over satellite. This removes potentially contradictory situations where the switch is in the OFF position, but the satellite connectivity is being used.
This version also includes improvements to the selection and validation of message recipients' phone numbers, with a 'new or existing contact?' UI element added for new conversations.

This was a rare mandatory update due to the inclusion of important security updates.
We recently deployed backend changes to increase the routing efficiency of messages sent over an internet connection – these changes did not impact messages sent over satellite. During that change, a configuration error meant that it was theoretically possible, for a short period of time, for a vulnerability to be exploited that could allow access to snippets of a targeted customer’s recent conversation history, or the point of origin of a message to a targeted customer to appear altered. Temporary fixes were put in place within a few hours of this coming to our attention, and this update permanently resolved the issue.
Having investigated this issue, no evidence has been found to suggest that any customer’s details or conversations were breached, and we have implemented new procedures to ensure a similar issue could not occur again. Exploiting this vulnerability would have required significant technical knowledge, and actions to be taken that are both complex and explicitly forbidden within our terms and conditions.

In this release, Bullitt Satellite Messenger gained features to assist in fringe connectivity areas, when using a Bluetooth device. Most notably, with a Bluetooth device paired and connected to satellite, users will now see a 'Sending via satellite' status bar and switch in chat views. This allows users to force the app to use an extant satellite connection, even if their smartphone believes it has a cellular connection.
For Bluetooth devices, an option to always retry sending messages that fail to send over a weak or intermittent internet connection via satellite instead was added to Settings, and is set to on by default.
To assist with establishing a connection and understanding satellite signal strength, a new and prominent satellite signal strength indicator has been added to the main app page, along with a Bluetooth device battery level indicator, where relevant.
The release also includes an update to the SOS user interface design.

There are a number of key bug fixes and stability improvements in this release, but in addition, cloud backup and restore features (via Google Drive) were also added to the app. Furthermore, a local backup facility was added that means conversation history can be restored if a user logs out and back in on the same device, without having signed in with another account in the meantime - fixing the issue where any logout from the app would mean all ongoing conversations were lost.
An easy link to the Bullitt customer portal for managing Bluetooth device users was added to the Settings menu.

This release contains numerous bugs fixes and minor enhancements. These focus particularly on improvements to the management and deployment of over-the-air update facility (FOTA) for Bluetooth devices, with updated UI elements and rety logics implemented.
A minor enhancment was also made to the Profile page within the app, with the addition of options to allow users to easily copy their registered user ID and satellite device IMSI to the clipboard.

Integrated into this update, alongside a number of important bug fixes, is a key enhancement: Messages sent to the FocusPoint International SOS Response Center now receive delivery receipts. These receipts are covered by the zero-rated SOS data, so they do not involve any cost to end users.
